We’ve Got This – A Publicity Campaign from Nelson Regional Development Agency
Project Kōkiri launched a new community-led marketing campaign that aims to support our region’s economic recovery and remind locals (and potential visitors) how good we have it here in the Nelson Tasman region.
The campaign is called ‘We’ve Got This / Kei a Tātou’ and its success relies on as many locals as possible getting behind the mission and spreading the message. Getting our region’s business community engaged and involved in the campaign will be essential to create a groundswell of support.
The campaign started in 2020, directly as a response to Covid-19, which resulted in a sharp drop in visitor numbers regionally, to attract New Zealand visitors here and to encourage locals to support local business. It combined the resources of Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council, Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce and Nelson Regional Development Agency.
The Sanctuary decided to get on board this initiative because visitors represent a large percentage of people through the gate and it provides another platform for us to promote conservation, sustainability the vision of the Trust and the work it does in the Sanctuary. In addition, getting more locals and visitors through the gate means we can be more financially sustainable and thereby continue to build up the range of wildlife , plants and trees that thrive inside the Sanctuary fence.
NRDA created the booklet 100 Things To Do In Nelson Tasman, which you can see on the right-hand side of this page. The contents are the result of local recommendations from the last Adventure Challenge, local recommendations via social media, plus ideas from NRDA and i-SITE staff. The booklet is designed to get locals and visitors thinking about the various experiences they can have around the region, inspiring them to explore more, spend more and stay longer, which in turn may lead them to research other activities or experiences, using Google, our website or i-SITEs. This booklet was distributed to 38,700 households in The Leader free community newspapers across Nelson Tasman, and NRDA also printed many extra copies which were distributed through local i-SITES, events, media channels and businesses.
The campaign has now finished, and was an enormous success, we continue to see more locals become involved with the Sanctuary in a variety of ways.
