Climate Change Grant
Climate Change Grant – thanks to Nelson City Council
The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary received funding from last year’s Climate Change Grant to transition from petrol and diesel powered tools to electric. This shift has helped reduce emissions, lower noise levels, and makes it easier to use tools in the field.
This year’s successful grant recipients will be announced soon. If you’re an organisation or a business looking to reduce your impact on the environment or build community resilience the next round of grants will open later in the year Climate Change Grant
Our outcomes;
- Purchase electric power tools, batteries
- Reduce petrol usage by 355 litres annually
- Increase visitor awareness of the benefits of renewable energy in everyday tasks
- Improve visitor experience of the Sanctuary due to the reduced noise associated with power tools
- Restrict use of existing petrol-powered tools at the Sanctuary unless necessary as a back-up
- Reduce the risk of fires caused by petrol-powered tools
We are very grateful to be the recipient of this grant, which enables the Sanctuary to carry out its core work, support our 300+ volunteers, and protect the rare and threatened species that call the Sanctuary home.
