Junior Ranger Information

Open to tamariki aged 5+, the Junior Ranger Program encourages hands-on learning and outdoor exploration through activities, challenges, and events that build understanding and respect for Aotearoa’s native wildlife and forests.

Membership costs $24 per year, with discounts available for families with multiple children, and can also be purchased as a gift — a fun and meaningful way to support youth conservation. A $5 per person fee applies to Junior Ranger activities and workshops (excluding general admission). Your Junior Ranger(s) will attend free of charge. Please note that a parent or guardian must accompany their child during all activities.

What’s in your welcome pack:

  • Your embroidered Junior Ranger badge – sew it onto your hat, backpack, or jacket and wear it proudly!
  • A certificate – hang it somewhere special to show you’re an official Junior Ranger.
  • Stickers – decorate your gear and show your Sanctuary pride.
  • Colouring sheets
  • Activity booklet – take them outside to explore your garden, local park, or the Sanctuary. Try spotting birds and bugs in your own ngahere and bring it on your next Sanctuary visit!
  • Back issues of The Waimārama Chronicles – catch up on past Junior Ranger stories, nature facts, and fun challenges.
