To raise funds for the 14.4km pest-proof fence, a community fundraising campaign called ‘Get Behind the Fence’ was born.
Members of the local and business community were able to sponsor fenceposts and many bear plaques with their names.
The overwhelming community support for this campaign meant work could begin on the construction of the fence in 2014.
The fence took two years to build and was finally completed in 2016.
